For the love of...

For those of you who know me well, you know I love animals.  Unfortunately, the state of Ohio which I live provides little protection for animals against those who do harm to them.  It is frustrating as someone who has rescued several animals to continue to see gross forms of mistreatment and know there is nothing to be done about it.

This winter has been particularly cold.  The temperatures have dipped well below zero with wind chills upwards of -35F.  I don't remember any winter as cold as this.  This poses a problem for dogs who live their lives chained to a stake in the ground.  It is heartbreaking to see these dogs dragging a 5lb chain around to walk 6 inches to a 5 gallon bucket of frozen water.  A 5 gallon bucket means the "guardian" doesn't need to go outside to check on the dog quite so much.

This is Butch - he's inside the little plastic house.  He lives over on West Third Street in Dayton.  Notice, there is no straw or anything.  I'm sure the plastic house is adept at keeping wind and extreme temperatures out.  You can also see the metal post he is chained to which gives him about 4-5 foot of movement.

Watch the video.  The laws must change.  HB 274 is in the Ohio Senate.  It is being referred to as Goddard's Law.  The agriculture lobbyists have shut variations of this bill down SEVEN TIMES in the past.
